This is my Lions Tail plant in the front yard. It really had the blooms this year. It was amazing.
I don't know the name of this plant. I got it at a Cottage Nursery and the leaves smell like Peanut Butter, so I call it my Peanut Butter Plant. Does anyone know it's name?
Do I have hummers - I have three feeders on the front porch and there are always 2 to 3 hummers drinking.
At dusk they really come in 10 to 12 at a time. I guess they are getting ready to store their energy for the night.
I love to sit outside and watch them as they are such busy little birds. They sure let me knew when their
feeders are empty. I have never used so much sugar in my life. The feeders are re-filled every other day.
Here is one of my pink hydrangea bushes. I didn't have as many blooms this year as last, I don't know why.
I have 6 different colored bushes along this side of the house which is east and they seem to like the early morning sun.
The closest bush has two different colored flowers on it - blue and purple. The two farther back are white.
These bushes had tons of flowers, while some only had two or three blooms.
Here are some more of my flowers in the front yard along with some roses.
Can you see my little cherub singing to the daisy's? I have three of them and they are so cute in the garden
Here is a small portion of my front porch. Can you see my yard trotters sitting up there? The chicken feeder was a gift from my granddaughter Kelly for Mothers Day in 2012. Kelly is 10 years old and the love of my life. She always gets me a chicken/rooster for Christmas and my Birthday's which was last Friday. She got me a sun catcher rooster and a little rooster along with 2 pictures she painted. Such a sweet little girl and quite the artist.
Hope you have enjoyed your visit today. I look forward to hearing your comments. I love to read them and what you have to say.
Mary

Oh Mary you have done such a great job on the photos and the writing and putting it all together by yourself, you should be so proud of yourself for conquering this by yourself...The post looks just so pretty....congrats for a job well done, I knew you could do it....Phyllis
ReplyDeleteThanks dear friend. You are always so supportive of me =- thank you. It was fun but I did get a little nervous. You would think I had national secrets LOL.
DeleteMar
Oh my gosh, Mary, all your flowers are beautiful but those hydrangeas are leaving me speechless!! They are absolutely gorgeous! It must be wonderful to watch the hummingbirds at your feeders. I am your newest follower and looking forward to seeing so much more of your garden. Linda
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for being a new follower. So glad that you liked my garden and hummers. They keep me hopping making their food.
DeleteMary
I loved seeing your flowers and especially your hummingbirds. What a beautiful garden you have!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Susie. I am having a love affair with my hummers. They are so cute and just buzz all around me when I go out the front door.
DeleteMary
I don't know the name to that plant but it looks like a pretty plant. I can't believe your hummers. We don't have ANY this year- I guess they are all at your house!;>) Your flowers are all so very pretty- xo Diana
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Diana. I love working out in my garden and seeing all my plants grow. Yes, I think ALL the hummers have come to my house LOL.
DeleteHave a great weekend.
Mary
Your garden is lovely! You have really created an oasis for the hummers! I've never seen a plant that smelled like peanut butter, before. :-)
ReplyDeleteWhen you rub the leaves together it smells like peanut of butter and they self seed so from one plant I have a lot.
DeleteThanks for your kind comments.
Mary
Hi Mary,
ReplyDeleteThis post is just full of pretty pictures! My husband and I love to feed and watch the birds too, and you captured some great shots of the hummingbirds! They're hard to photograph, as their wings move so fast.
I love your garden, especially the hydrangeas. They really are just about my favorite shrub, and I think I like the purple ones the best. Your granddaughter sounds like a real sweetie. :)
Thanks so much for your visit and comments on our trip to the mountains! I hope you have a great weekend, Mary.
Hugs,
Denise
Thanks so much for your comments Denise. For some reason two of my hydrangeas only had 2 blooms on them and normally they have a lot. Strange spring and summer. I have iris re-blooming also and they are not the ones that bloom twice. Go figure.
DeleteMary
Could it be a popcorn plant? It looks very similar to my neighbors plant. Either way, name or no name, your garden is gorgeous and full of lively color. I love the first plant quite well. Enough to plant one myself. They look like they would do very well in light. Nicely done. Hugs. Tammy
ReplyDeleteThe Lion Tails like a lot of light as mine gets full sun all day. Thank you for your comments - so glad that you like my garden.
DeleteMary
Your garden is lovely. The humming birds are so exotic to me, I enjoyed their pictures very much!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Magali for your kind comments. I love my little hummers. They were waiting for me this morning telling me that one of their feeder is empty, soooooooooo had to make more food for them while I was having my first cup of coffee. lol.
DeleteHave a great weekend.
Mary
My, your garden looks so pretty! I love the Lion's Tail I have one in my back garden that I got at Annie's Annuals on a visit to Carmel, they certainly put on a nice display. I don't know the name of the second plant, I started one from a cutting, but I do know that they have a tendency to roam and can be real garden thugs...so watch it carefully! The hydrangeas are spectacular.
ReplyDeleteBy the way...haven't we been having nice cool weather?
Yes I know they are garden thugs - they are coming up all over the place. Have to have the gardener pull them up.
DeleteI am love love loving the weather.... it can stay this way until fall. I just had the Lion's Tail cut back as it was finished blooming and it's growing already.
Thanks for your kind comments and have a terrific weekend.
Mary
Your cottage garden is wonderful. I wish mine was in full bloom like yours.
ReplyDeleteOn the patio you have 2 floral pillows - that was the print of the slipcovers on my sofa. I loved it and was so upset when they were worn out. I still have a few of the pillows in the attic.
I have the same white garden chairs you have at the table - gifts from a friend who was moving to Lake Arrowhead.
We often get hummingbirds in Steve's studio. They fly in the French doors and head to the skylights to get out. It is tricky, but we get them out safely.
Have a wonderful weekend.
I love the fabric also. I found it at the discount fabric store. I call them the $2.00 fabric store. They have them all over. I made the pillows and still have more fabric left. A lot of the fabric is $3.00 for 60 wide. It is more of a decorator fabric store.
DeleteMy friend Phyllis from AroundRhouse gave me the set, which has 6 chairs, l table, love seat and sofa table. I just love it. Like to sit out there and have coffee or tea and watch the hummers. I have had a mocking bird eating out the hummer feeders - I chase him away.
Have a great weekend.
Mary
Hi Mary, your garden and blooms are stunning. I love seeing the hummingbirds while feeding. They are incredible to watch. Lovely setting and so inviting.
ReplyDeleteHope you are enjoying a nice summer. Have a great weekend.
Hugs, Celestina Marie
Many thanks for your kind comments. Yes, I am enjoying the summer more now that the weather has been cooler.
DeleteHave a terrific weekend.
Mary
Hi Mary,
ReplyDeleteI am in love with your pretty and cozy porch!! Can I come over, and sit with you and share a glass of lemonade and let the soothing California sun soothe our souls?!! Your sweet flowers, alone, are all we would need for eye candy! Thanks for making me smile!:)
Happy weekend, hope you get a chance to enjoy your lovely surroundings!
Poppy
Thank you so much for your lovely comments. You are welcome anytime to come and sit with me on my porch or patio and we can watch my silly hummers and the flowers grow.
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend to you also.
Mary
I love your hydrangeas! Absolutely beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much - I love my hydrangeas also. Did you have the baby? Hope all is well.
DeleteHave a great weekend.
Mary
I am unfamiliar with Lion's Tail, but I am going to look for it next spring. I love the color and all of those blossoms!
ReplyDeleteThey are great - I have had mind for about 10 years. After it blooms I cut it back and it grows again. Not a fussy plant.
DeleteMary
Your photos from garden and birds are lovely!
ReplyDeleteMary,
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, there is that glorious bird! I can't believe you get so many coming to your garden each day. I think they are coming to visit YOU! I put a hummingbird feeder out and didn't see any of them, so I'm not using it any more. I did see one hovering over my rose bush, and it was such a sight. I heard they love the real thing, so I want to plant one of their favorite bushes. Any ideas on the flowers they like? Your garden is always a delight to see, and I love your table and chairs. Thank you for sharing your hummingbird pictures. They made my heart sing.
Love,
~Sheri
Thanks for your comments Sheri. The hummers like anything that has a long flower. I see them in everything in my garden. They must like the liquid I give them as they sure go through it. I boil the water and for every two cups of water I add one cup of sugar. They like it at room temperature so I make up a couple of plastic bottles full and put it in the refrig and then take it out for a couple of hours before I fill their feeders. I clean them very good before I refill, just hot water, no soap. I have three feeders on the front porch and one hanging on the patio. I have to make more food for them tonight. About 7 p.m. they go crazy feeding.
ReplyDeleteMary
I love the cottage style of your gardens and your porch!
ReplyDeleteThanks Carlene for your kind comments. I really like the cottage gardens and try to have mine like that.
DeleteMary
OMGoodness, Mary, you have the prettiest garden and you certainly were able to capture those little hummers to their best advantage. That's hard to do. Love your chickens..Happy Monday..Judy
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your comments - I do love my garden and hummers. Needless to say I also love chickens and will have to do a post on them.
DeleteSo glad you had a great vacation.
Mary
What a gorgeous cottage garden you have, Mary. We have a Lions Tail too, yours is spectacular! I'm from Tustin, Ca. My parents lived in their house for 55 years. For the past 22 years we've lived in San Diego, Fullerton is a very pretty city too. Happy Belated Birthday!! Thanks so much for stopping by with all your wonderful comments. Have a fun week in your garden!!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Jody
Your garden is so beautiful...I just love seeing it..and those hummingbirds are the best aren't they...Have a great week Mary!
ReplyDeleteHappy belated birthday, Mary! Your gardens are just so beautiful! I especially love the hydrangeas, I wish that I had better luck with them. I love them all, but blue is my favorite. I bet it's so fun to watch that many hummers at your house! We had alot of them when we lived in Washington State, especially the Rufous hummers, which I think that rust colored one in your photos is. Your granddaughter sounds like a real sweetheart:)
ReplyDeleteI am also sending belated Happy Birthday wishes to you, Mary. Yes, you are a little cooler where you are. My daughter lives nearer the coast too and she is always saying how nice it is down there.
ReplyDeleteI loved the lovely way you caputured your little "hummers"...they are such sweet birds. Your flowers are just beautiful. My Hydrangia is going to be moved very soon to the east side of the house. It is NOT doing well under the tree..not at all.
I rushed right over when I found you had posted again.
Your little granddaughter sounds loving and caring. Mine are all grown now..but my little greats are a joy!!
Love,
Mona
So so wonderful garden ! Mine has some problems this year with cute baby poodle playing football all around it !! So I choosed her instead of my poor garden ! Love so much the wonderful birds that we don't have here in France !
ReplyDeleteYour hydrangea are gorgeous!!! I did not put my hummingbird feeder out this year, because last year our dog kept trying to jump up and "play" with the birds. I might dig it out and try to hang it from the roof line though, now that i see how many hummers you are getting. I miss the little guys!
ReplyDeleteGosh your hummingbird pictures are amazing.. and your garden is so pretty. I have never heard of that Lion's Tail plant...very pretty.. enjoyed your pictures and all of your chickens.
ReplyDeleteLove, Mona
wonderful pictures of flowers and I really like the hummingbirds
ReplyDeleteMary, I am absolutely blown away by your garden! Your flowers are all gorgeous. I've never seen a Hydrangea in that bright pink color. I've got to go back and scroll through this post again. The beauty is breath-taking. How in the world did you get such great pictures of the hummingbirds? They are always moving so fast, I can't capture them in a picture. My feeder broke about a month ago. I've got to replace it. You recently asked about my grandson. I am happy to report that he is doing great! He is 8 mos old and weighs over 12 lbs! We are so blessed. Thank you for asking about him, and thank you for the kind comments you leave on my blog. laurie
ReplyDeleteyour garden is really lovely and what fun watching those hummingbirds!!!

Mary, your garden has to be the envy of all your neighbors! Those PINK hydrangeas are the deepest shade I've ever seen & I also love the lace cap blue & purple ones, too. I used to have ONE bush of those in FL. Just beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteHi Mary - what a spectacular garden - and your front porch is just beautiful -
ReplyDeleteI'd love to sit there for an afternoon !!!
( if you don't have squirrels LOL - I'm a little paranoid of them right now )
XOXO
What a lovely garden. I especially love your vibrant pink hydrangea. Your red and yellow themed front porch has such a French flare. Beautiful back drop for a cottage garden.
ReplyDeleteO my goodness...you have the kind of beautiful garden we'd ALL be blessed if we had.'
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful...
Mary your garden is sooooo pretty. It is so lush and you have so many beautiful blooms. Is the large orange plant the Lion's tail? It is so beautiful, I don't think I have seen that one before. I have seen the second plant before but I can't remember its name.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your sweet visit, Ginger
Love your flowers and your porch looks so inviting! :)
ReplyDeleteSusan
How lovely! The hummingbirds are so beautiful : )
ReplyDeleteYour gardens are beautiful, Mary. Wish I could get the blooms in the Midwest that you get in California.
ReplyDeleteI thoroughly enjoyed this tour of your garden, Mary. It is interesting to see what grows best in different areas of the country. The lion's tail is new to me, but it sure is eye-catching.
ReplyDeleteIt seems as though your hummingbird feeder is in an ideal location for viewing from outside and inside. How fun to get so many at once. I usually only see one at a time here. Either way they are a delight to watch.
Your granddaughter sounds like a sweetie pie.
Lovely blossoms! I love your shots of the humming birds, I think they are so fascinating! I'd love to have one of those little nests, so wonderful, but alas,
ReplyDeletewe don't have many (any) in this area. Lovely photos.
Hugs,
Patti

Wow, your garden is just beautiful...and thanks for sharing the tip about the hummers...I never knew they'd be as voracious as the squirrels...LOL Sounds like I'd have to buy about 20 lbs of sugar a week....LOL
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Mary, for your kind words about my nephew. Your address failed again for me, but I don't mind. He was a very special young man and will be missed terribly..Judy
ReplyDeleteAunt Mary! I LOVE YOUR GARDEN! When I think of your garden and my visits to it growing up, it's still so magical to me. I have quite the obsession with Faeries and I think your garden when I think of a place they thrive at. I hope my garden can someday be as magical. I always tell my mom that your garden reminds me of the Secret Garden <3 I love you! Thank you for inspiring me!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful garden flowers and some GREAT shots of those sweet little hummers!
