SOME OF MY FAVORITE THINGS

Now that all my Christmas decorations are put away for another year I thought that I would share a few of my favorite things that I love.

Just a few of my favorite things.......

Yum yum -how I love chocolate and frosted sugar cookies - the are delicious.

I love my rose books and are always looking for another rose bush.  You know a gal can never have enough roses in her gardens.  Most of my neighbors are always asking for roses for a bouquet.

I got this wonderful rose tea cup for my Birthday many years ago from  friend.  It really holds a big cup of tea and I love to have that close when I am searching for another rose bush.  I really don't need another one as I have about 150.

This beautiful rose is from Jackson and Perkins and was in their trial rose program.  I received three bushes with no names on them and had to plant them and send reports on how they were progressing.  I love how they are peach color buds and as they open you can see the beautiful cream colored petals.  Unfortunately, the rose didn't met their standards, but it is one of my favorite roses.  Maybe I should name it "My Favorite Things"

These roses are the last in bloom as the gardeners were here today and were dead heading my bushes.  They still have about 25 more to finish up next week.  I found this tea pot at a garage sale, minus a lid but it works so well for a bouquet of roses.

One of my rose books that shows so many wonderful climbers.  I really prefer David Austin's climbers as they have so many petals and their perfume is so nice.

My favorite rose tea pot along with my big tea cup and my favorite perfume bottle along with my pearls.

My beautiful statuary that is very dear to me of Mother and Child.

You all know how much I love roosters and chickens.  I got this pillow for Christmas from a dear sweet friend who knows my likes and dislikes.  She always nails it for my Birthday and Christmas.  It is a beautiful needle point pillow.

So these are a few of my favorite things - what are your favorite things?

Please leave a comment as I read all of them and try to reply to all.

Mary

  1. That is fabulous that you have 150 roses. I have 5 roses and a question for you; how do you get rid of weeds growing at the base of your roses? I pull the weeds up but they grow right back.

    ReplyDelete
  2. I had that problem when I started with my garden many years ago. You can't put any kind of weedkiller down as that will harm the rose bush. When I first plant a bare root bush I make a well around the bush so that you can deep water. I would keep pulling the weeds and finally I guess that I got the roots of the weed. If it's nut grass (which is a weed) has like a little nut at the end are TERRIBLE to get rid of. Just get your hoe and work the dirt about once a week and hopefully you can get it.. I would ask at the nursery as they have so many new products out now. Hope I have been of some help. thanks for stopping by - send pictures of your roses.

  3. Hi Mary, Your teacup and teapot are lovely! I enjoyed seeing your roses too. It's brown/grey/white here (winter in the midwest). Craving green, pink, red, purple...the beauties in my garden. I'll just have to enjoy yours till we have spring. :)

  4. I have so many favorite things. today it's my new tea pot. Mary Engelbreit. Now I am trying to find the cups and saucers. I am on a QUEST! :)
I love the roses and yes, I think that would be a perfect name! I miss my rose garden so much. I only had 26 rose bushes but it broke my heart to leave them. Long story. I lived in Bakersfield and when Frank died and I came home..I had to leave all my rose bushes and many were gifts from my daughter, Erin.
Now I only have a few.
What a pretty and cozy home you have. I love it, Mary!

  7. Mary- You have some gorgeous things! I love that last little pot (without the lid) that you are using as a vase. I had no idea that you had so many rose bushes. I wish I could see them in person. I love roses. Roses and lilacs are my very favorite blooms -oh and peonies- I love them, too.

It is too bad that rose did not make the cut. I think it is absolutely beautiful! Love the way one color diffuses into another. I love the David Austin climbers, too. I only have one little rose bush at this house. THAT is sad!!!! xo Diana

  8. I love roses too! I have a few successes but mostly failures in that department. My granny was a wonderful gardener and I always dream that someday I may be too. I love all of your favorite things but especially that statue. I have never seen one like it before.

  9. Your roses are just gorgeous, Mary! You sure do have a green thumb:) The look so pretty in your tea pot. I also love your statue, it's so sweet! What are some of my favorite things? Well, I guess there are too many to list here, but I love tarnished silver (the more patina the better!), the many doilies that my Mom crocheted over the years, anything bird themed, and my collection of Eiffel towers. Have a great day!

  20. Your favorite things are wonderful.

I love roses, but they don't love our sandy beach soil. I have a few plants that do well, but I never know when a rose bush will do well.

I love all of your tea things - I am not a tea drinker, but I love the idea of a tea party.

  21. I loved looking at all of your favorite things. 150 roses......what beauty that brings to mind. I have only a few roses here due to my not having a green enough thumb to make them happy. I think that you should name that beautiful rose, it is gorgeous, I'm surprised it didn't meet the company's standards.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  31. Hi Mary,

What a treat to see all your favourite things in a sweet, little vignette on your dining room table for us to enjoy, as well as you! Our tastes in colour and pattern are very similar, have you noticed that? How darling is that floral teapot for your pretty roses, which you are so lucky to have even now, when most of the continent is covered in snow! I do see some here, in my own village, and they are like little scented gems, flickering in the sunlight, their perfume floating through the cool air. How delightful to have such a garden full of roses, blooming throughout the year, such enchantment for your senses, (and everyone on your street!).

The collection of your favourite treasures, some of porcelain and pearls, others of glass and clay, paper and wool, are all wonderful textures that add coziness and calm, to your already pretty and peaceful space.

Love this room and it must feel so special to sit here, whatever the weather. Thanks for sharing your treasures with us today.

    Wishing you a lovely Sunday.

  33. What a lovely post Mary. You have so many pretty things. The mother and child statue is precious. I can see why it would be one of your favorite things. Your roses are a delight. So many bright colors. You must have a spectacular rose garden. I have been planting roses in my garden for the last five years. I usually try to add one or two every year but I always have problems with bugs and black spots on the leafs. Any advice for that?? Your home is very lovely also. Thanks for always coming to visit dear friend. I truly appreciate it.

  34. Good morning and many thanks for you lovely comments. For the bugs I have a spray of Dawn liquid soap and water and spray the roses or buy some laby bugs and let them go to town having a feast. For black spots if it just a few I pull the leaves off if it is a lot I prune the bush back some times you have to go to the nursery and ask the expert there and get a spray. Hope this helps you - would love to see your roses.
Hope your weather is better - we finally got a little rain last night. Yea.

I ordered ordered some roses from David Austin today: 3 Alnwicks for a new border and an Ambridge. The Alnwicks are new to me...have you tried one? They are supposed to like warm weather areas. I had Ambridge before and it did very well. Just keeping my fingers crossed I will have water for them this summer.
