WON'T YOU COME INTO MY GARDEN MY ROSES WOULD LIKE TO MEET YOU.

Today I thought I would show you my front yard garden.  The roses are so pretty this year and so many buds.  Yesterday I fertilized all of my plants in the front and back yards.

We are only allowed to use the sprinklers on Saturday for 5 minutes each cycle.  That has to be done before 8:00 a.m. or after 5 p.m.  We can water our flowers more than once a week, but not lawns.

This is my side yard where I have my hydrangea's.  There are 5 there and should be blooming soon.

We haven't been getting much rain in So CA but, lots of snow and rain in Northern CA.  That is where we get our water from.  The weather man is predicting rain in the later part of the week.  Time will tell.  They haven't been too good at their predictions so far.

I wanted to show you my roses and  the iris that have not changed colors.   Notice some of the shadows from the sun.  It was a beautiful day today.  So please enjoy my garden.

Now back to the roses and the rest of the garden.

My Eden rose

Kitty from next door taking a nap in my garden.  It's nice and cool for him.

Waldo and Lili are watching everything that I do - such wonderful dogs.  They are getting old, just like their mom.

Thanks so much for visiting my roses I  know that they are happy to see you.

Please leave a comment so I can tell the roses what you said.

Guess what it is raining....... yea, yea, yea - I don't have to water Saturday and I can go any play.

Mary, Waldo and Lili

  1. Oh Mary, your garden flowers are outstanding! I just love visiting CA friends' gardens right now. I live in WV, zone 7a, and my gardens are just now coming alive. It will be another month before I see a first flush of roses, and my perennial irises in bloom, hydrangeas in June. Not only do your blooms look beautiful, but your leaves look nice and shiny, no black spot visible. I bet your neighbors comment positively a lot on your garden. Such an oasis! Thanks for sharing.

  2. Thanks so much for stopping by Rita. Yes, the people that walk always make comments to me if I am out in the yard about how great them smell and how pretty.

Day before yesterday my previous mailman, Norman stopped by to see if I would cut some roses for his girl friend. So I got my clippers and went out and made a bouquet for him.

Today we are having some wonderful rain and it looks like the flowers are dancing.

Again, thanks for the sweet comments and have a super weekend. Hopefully it will warm up for you soon. My cousin in Roanoke is fussing that it's to darned cold there.

  6. Your roses and other flowers are beautiful. You have such a wonderful rainbow of colors. I have been trying to plant one David Austin Rose each year. At this rate it will take me a long time to have as many as I would like to. Each year I am attracted to a different color and variety of rose. I need to make a rose garden, and have all of my roses in one place, as my husband is getting tired of mowing around the different roses I have in placed in different locations in the yard.

    1. Thanks so much for stopping by Susie. I do love my roses and have been planting for over 25 years now. I haven't purchase any new one for over three years. But, I do love the David Austin ones. I have about 10 of them and I especially love them because they have over 30 petals and the smell is wonderful. I like to get all colors and always look to see what is the new rose at the different Rose Nursery's.

Again, thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend. We are getting some much needed rain.

  8. Hi Mary,

Thanks so much for giving us a tour of your garden!! Your roses are magnificent; so many colors and varieties. I'm a big fan of irises, and yours are lovely. :) I hope you'll post again when your hydrangeas bloom and share those with us, too.

I can appreciate all the hard work you put into making this garden so pretty, Mary. It's hard work! Waldo and Lili look so sweet -- it's hard to watch them get old, isn't it?

I enjoyed this post, Mary, and I hope you have a great weekend. Enjoy the rain!!

I can hardly wait for my hydrangea's to bloom. The gardener that I let go really did a number on them and some are not doing to well. I really like to take care of them myself, but sometimes I am not able to get in the garden and do that. I will do a post then they are in bloom.

I also like to deadhead my roses, but again it's hard for me. If I am feeling good and can breath, I will take care of them myself.

So glad you like my babies, yes they are getting old just like their mom. They are the best.

  18. It's so beautiful. Are you going to get a rain barrel? Around here, some gutter people do them. I don't have one, but I do have the pipe directed to the area where there are plants with no irrigation or sprinklers. I might build one someday, but I wanted to make sure the gutters we had put on really worked before proceding. xoxo Su

    Replies
    1. Thanks so much for stopping by Su. No, I don't have a rain barrel and only have 2 gutters on the whole house. One over the front porch, which is probably full of leaves. That one goes into the fron rose garden. The other one is on the back patio and I have the two flowing into the flowers beds that don't get the sprinklers. The rest I hand water with hose or sprinkler cans that I have saved water in. So I am delighted when I don't have to drag the hose around and water.

Are you getting any of this rain? Have a great week.

    2. Yes, we are getting the rain. It rained two or three times this past week. It rained really hard on Sunday, and there was some flooding on the streets, but it quickly resolved. I have only one gutter on my home. We put it on. People just don't have them, because it doesn't rain enough, however when it does, we didn't want it collecting near the house in one spot. xoxo Su

  32. Very nice!

I live in Las Vegas, and we've had water restrictions here for years. The water district even drives around and gives tickets if you are violating the rules.

Our beds have drip irrigation for watering. I don't know if you have drip, but I highly recommend it. It cuts out so much water use, as well as weeds.

So glad you pointed out your Eden rsoe. One of my readers entioned one and I wasn't sure on the color. Thaks for sharing!

  33. I had that a long time ago and when that broke I put into the beds soaker hoses and that seems to work well. I think with more rain than usual it really helped the roses. Not that we got what we need. I did lose a few roses bushes and I am not going to replace them.

  38. Mary, your Spring garden is a picture!
I'm a great rose lover and I especially love the Heritage roses - these are the ones that David Austin uses as breeding stock.
I have Eden rose growing over an arch in my garden (over here we call it Pierre de Ronsard). It has exquisite blooms I just wish it had a perfume too!
I bought two new David Austins this year, Munstead Wood which I'm loving, it is a deep velvety red with a great perfume, it's only drawback is it has awful thorns.
The other is Tamora an apricot pink, sadly it is not happy in my garden. (we do seem to get all the neighbourhood cats using our garden as their bathroom, maybe that has something to do with it - I wish I could keep them away)!
Anyway getting back to Tamora, I'll fertilise her now and give her one more season in the garden and if that doesn't work I'll transfer her to a terracotta pot for some special TLC and see what happens.
I love a mixed bowl of roses of all colours, sizes and shapes!

I'm also fond of Irises as companion plants for roses and I'm buying a couple more each year - they are expensive here otherwise I would really splash out!
My eye is on your bearded irises - they are beautiful Mary.

It must be difficult for you with watering restrictions - I imagine you save your water from the kitchen to put on the garden.
I also have hydrangeas through my garden and they just go on and on with very little care.

Waldo and Lili look like they're great gardening companions - they must love being out there with you!

I live in New Zealand so we are in Autumn (Fall) now and my garden is winding down and preparing for winter. Our climate is temperate so we don't get snowfalls, just cold temps down to 3 degrees at the lowest. Other parts of the country have snow through winter.

    I loved your posts today!

    1. Oh Shane, thank you so much for your lovely comments. I am so glad that you liked my post. As you can tell I love my roses and gardens and would stay out there all day if my age would let me. Today, I was out with my walker since I threw my back out and can hardly walk, deadheading my roses and left piles for the gardener. The neighbors must have thought I was NUTS LOL. I don't let the dogs out front or I would be chasing them all the way to the park.

I love my David Austin roses and most of them smell so good.

I save the water from the shower. It takes a little while for it to get hot so I just put that into a bucket that I keep in the shower and then take it to the garden.

We thought that we would be getting El Nino, but it didn't come South, it stayed up in Northern CA, but hopefully we will still get some.

I was in New Zealand about 40 years ago when I worked in the Hotel industry. We went to Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland. I loved it there, everything was so pretty. I believed we went in September.

I have signed up to follow your blog and will be reading all your posts. How lucky that you get to visit France and visit your granddaughters. France is on my Bucket List.

  46. Oh WOW, I am mesmerized by your garden, just absolutely beautiful. And those two cuties Walso and Lili are just too sweet. I'm going to grab some tea and browse around all over your blog for the rest of the evening. Thanks for sharing.
